"Your're Not The Only One"
Sleep Sex Behaviors

What Is Sleep Sex?

Sleep Sex (SBS) sexual behaviors during sleep also known as a form of Parasomnia (but not yet formally categorized as a parasomnia).

Parasomnia is associated with sleep disorders such as arousal disorders, sleep-awake transition disorders, and REM (rapid eye movement) and dreaming.

This sex disorder was grouped into three categories by "severity" in a Stanford Study.

These sex studies consisted of:

1. Annoying to bed partner but not harmful

2. Annoying to bed partner and at times harmful

3. Harmful to bed partners and others

The first group consisted of sexually related sounds that could be heard outside the bedroom.

The second group consisted of masturbation activities.

The third group was the most serious category, force and brutality.

What Causes Sex Sleep?

It has been found that sleep sex is caused by neurochemical disorders in the brain. People who engage in sex while sleeping are known to have a history of other Sleep Disorders such as, bed-wetting, and sleepwalking, REM behavior disorders and apnea and this is just to name a few.

Sexsomnia is similar to multiple personalities - sex while sleeping, this is essentially a different person with no recollection of what's happening.

Fatigue and stress, as well as drugs and alcohol use, can bring about these sex disorders.
